The Opportunity

January 2025 - December 2025

When you work in an internship role in the Total Fund Management department you will have an engaging work experience where you can apply your analytical skills and passion for markets at a leading investment firm while experiencing the dynamic nature of the trading floor environment. This “full immersion” experience unfolds in a friendly and open environment where you will work side by side with highly experienced investment professionals and more recent graduates. We embrace diversity of thought and pride ourselves in our strong learning culture. You will be encouraged to offer your opinion and develop both market expertise and strengthen interpersonal skills. As an added benefit, our interns have access to industry tools, research, and the opportunity to interact with traders, portfolio managers and economic researchers.

Who you’ll work with

We are looking for an intern to join our Beta Management team within Total Fund Management. Beta Management provides best-in-class management of our passive cross-asset investment portfolio including implementation of changes to our asset mix using a combination of both derivative and cash instruments. The team consists of subject matter experts across all asset classes, proficient in accessing and maintaining Total Fund exposures efficiently.

What you'll do

As an intern in Total Fund Management, you will be encouraged to make the most of your experience at OTPP by asking questions and getting involved in our daily business right from the start. Total Fund Management encourages the development of their interns and offers a unique experience with direct exposure to markets in an institutional capacity.

Throughout the internship, you will work with a team of portfolio managers across the equity, fixed income, commodity, credit and foreign exchange asset classes. The successful candidate will gain experience in managing our asset mix positions while supporting the Fund’s risk-adjusted return targets subject to our internal constraints including risk, liquidity and leverage.

Situated on the trading floor, each day will present unique challenges that require teamwork, collaboration and real-time problem solving across global markets. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to tackle ad-hoc issues and develop tools that enhance analytics to support investment decision-making. The role involves regular interaction with the trading team to ensure seamless market access for position management.

What you'll need

  • You are enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate studies or pursuing graduate studies.

  • You aspire to thrive in a dynamic environment and can work well within a team setting.
  • You have strong skills in programming concepts, with proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • You have experience in creating dashboards, with proficiency in Microsoft Power BI being an asset.
  • While your specific field of study is flexible, we encourage applications from those with a strong academic record and a shared passion for financial markets.
  • You must be enrolled in a co-op program or returning to your studies after the work term is completed.

  • Numerous opportunities for professional growth and development, including lunch and learns

  • Student led team building events on a monthly basis
