As a Trading Research and Analytics (TRA) Researcher, you will play a crucial role in advancing our three core research pillars: cross-asset cost modeling, cross-asset liquidity analysis, and trading optimization across Equities, Futures, Rates, FX, and Credit. You will apply modeling techniques to financial market data, which will provide actionable insights that help investment managers and traders develop low-cost trading strategies. As an Associate, you will also be responsible for executing the team’s long-term strategic initiatives, ensuring our internal stakeholders receive impactful, data-driven solutions.
The Associate reports directly to the Head of Trading Research and Analytics (TRA) within the Global Trading & Beta group in Total Fund Management. You will collaborate closely with global trading group traders, leveraging Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA) to evaluate broker execution, trading performance, and cost drivers. Additionally, you will partner with internal teams, including Capital Markets and Total Fund Management, to integrate TCA and Pre/Post Cost modeling into systematic portfolios and identifying opportunities to reduce trade costs. Across the fund, you will also engage with key stakeholders, including Beta Management, Credit, Quantitative Strategy & Research (QSR) and Developed Market Rates.
You will also contribute to our AI-driven objectives by working closely with OTPP’s internal data science team and collaborate with internal technology partners to develop and implement tools that enhance stakeholder outcomes.
Proactively identify areas for improvement and introduce innovative ideas through hypothesis-driven experimentation, leading to trade cost reductions.
Develop and refine multi-asset market impact models that quantify execution footprints across global markets.
Research and create multi-asset real-time trading signals to support traders in achieving low-cost execution.
Collaborate with technology teams to design and implement a multi-asset data warehouse for comprehensive research and analysis.
Present research findings to key stakeholders with clarity and impact.
Partner with traders to deepen understanding of market structure, liquidity, and trading workflows across asset classes.
Undergraduate or advanced degree in Statistics, Engineering, Finance or relevant fields.
Minimum 3 years’ experience with at least 2+ years of experience in a Finance/Trading oriented role or equivalent.
Trading research and TCA experience is an asset
Knowledge in market microstructure research & modelling across Equities, Futures, Rates, FX, and Credit.
Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, C++, etc.
Entrepreneurial mindset and proven ability to drive scalability & execute on a research agenda.
Experience utilizing quantitative techniques (e.g. statistical analysis, mathematical modelling, machine learning or others).
Proficient with visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, etc)
Fluent communication skills and ability to explain and simplify technical concepts
Team player attitude and highly motivated / self-starter
